Creating and maintaining a garden with respect for the environment cannot be improvised! On the contrary, you will have to avoid many mistakes that we suggest you discover in order to create a garden that is part of a sustainable development approach. The ecological garden without errors!
Do not use exotic materials
Using exotic materials to create the floor of a terrace, for example, is a very bad idea if you want your exterior to care about the environment. Indeed, by choosing exotic wood, you cannot be sure that it does not come from wild deforestation which causes the decline of forests in certain parts of the world. On the other hand, the harvesting of this wood is often not done under ethical conditions both for the workers and for the animals that it requires (elephants are for example used for the transport of teak because the mountains are not always accessible by vehicle). Finally, choosing exotic wood will of course require that it travel a lot and it will therefore have a much higher carbon footprint than French wood. So prefer wood whose traceability you can know and do not hesitate to turn to wood from sustainably managed forests.
Watering is a real source of waste in your garden! It is therefore necessary to water sparingly and respecting certain rules. We do not water for example when the sun is at its peak because it would be of little use and would burn the plants. We do not hesitate to invest in a sprinkler system which will make it possible to dose the sprinkler with a drip system for example. Finally, the ideal is to reuse rainwater in order to water your garden. For this, you can equip yourself with a rainwater collector which will allow you to store and use the water without any waste.
Without knowing it, amateur gardeners will not fail to pollute nature! Indeed, when we do not know plants very well, we are often tempted to treat them with chemicals that are very harmful to plants and soil. But be aware that there are natural solutions to many problems. You can use decoctions of plants to treat against certain diseases or use other plants to hunt certain insects. For example, in the vegetable garden certain vegetables are complementary by protecting each other from pests. Rather than using fertilizer, you can also use your own compost. Not only will this reduce your waste, but your plants will also get better. And if you want to use a draining mixture, we will prefer a natural version such as potting soil or pozzolan than a chemical mixture.
Only use new
Finally, know that to create your garden in an ecological way, it is necessary to start from what you already have! It is often unnecessary to buy new things when you can transform them! If you dig a small basin, reuse the earth to create a pretty mound for your flower beds and if you remove a wooden terrace, reuse the boards to make a shelter for wood or for bikes. With a little imagination, in your garden, recycling becomes obvious for the environment but also for the wallet! Find all the mistakes to avoid in your garden.
